Study Of An Investigational Home-Based Care Following An Acute Copd Exacerbation

Description

Seeking men and women who with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) care and live close to UMass Memorial Hospital for a study of home visits from specially trained paramedics to check on them or provide treatment to see if it reduces emergency room visits.

Overview

Participants in this study will be eligible for up to several home visits if your doctors or another member of your healthcare team think you would benefit from a visit. In addition, you will need to complete several surveys and participate in interviews with study staff. You may also be asked to participate in a focus group with other patients and clinicians.

What we're hoping for

We are studying whether home visits from specially trained paramedics helps keep people recover at home after an acute COPD exacerbation and avoid going to the emergency room.
