Use Of A Chest Shield During Phototherapy To Prevent Patent Ductus Arteriosus In Premature Infants

Description

Seeking premature babies less than 28 weeks old at birth that are admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) during the first 24 hours of life and will receive phototherapy to reduce the risk for developing a hole between the heart and lungs called Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA).

Overview

Participants will be randomly assigned to either have a chest shield (photoshield) placed on your infant during phototherapy treatment or usual care (no chest shield placement)

What we're hoping for

This is a study to test whether it is safe and easy to use a chest shield during phototherapy treatment to prevent premature infants developing a hole between their heart and lungs called Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA).
