Study Of A Text Messaging Program To Help People Reduce Or Quit Smoking

Description

Seeking men and women who are current smokers for a study of motivational text messages to help people stop smoking.

Overview

Participants in this study will get weekly text messages on their cell phones asking about their smoking status and texts every other week with motivational messages with offers to connect people to the quitline. At the end of the 6 months participants will have a 30-minute interview session done either online or by phone. Some participants may be asked to come in for a carbon monoxide breath test.

What we're hoping for

We are studying whether motivational text messages adapted to each person based on their responses to questions might influence a current smoker to quit.
