Study Comparing Surgical Options For Rectal Cancer (Color Iii)

Description

This study is looking to compare different surgical options for treating patients with rectal cancer.

Overview

There are two surgery methods used routinely to remove rectal cancer that do not require an open surgery. The methods are not experimental. Both types of surgery are being done at UMASS; however, they have not been compared side-by-side. This research study compares the two methods to see if one method is better than the other. Patients will be randomly assigned to one of the two surgical groups.

What we're hoping for

We hope to learn if one method is better than the other and how each method affects rectal cancer patients’ quality of life.
